Western Energy Production, LLC, has pursued a strategy of gaining early entry into emerging oil and gas plays, acquiring mineral leaseholds and prudently planning to develop the associated reserves, as well as purchasing underdeveloped producing oil and gas assets.
Steven Marshall, President
Mr. Marshall has been actively involved in the domestic exploration and production of oil and natural gas for 17 years. Mr. Marshall is the Founder and President of Western Energy Production, LLC, a privately held oil and gas exploration and production company headquartered in Rancho Santa Fe, California. Over the past five years, Marshall’s and Western Energy’s focus has been leasehold acquisition and development of emerging and high impact resource potential plays. Western’s portfolio of assets includes strategic positions in three prolific North American basins and has established a significant leasehold position in the active Monterey/Kreyenhagen Shale play in the San Joaquin Basin of California, as well as Colorado’s Niobrara Shale and the Brown Dense/Lower Smackover play in northeastern Louisiana and northwestern Mississippi. Mr. Marshall and his team amassed one of the largest positions in the Monterey Shale (200,000 gross acres/125,000 net), and has since partnered with AERA Energy (Exxon Mobil/Shell) to operate and develop the resource. Aera Energy, a partnership between Exxon Mobil/Shell, is one of California’s largest oil and gas producers, accounting for approximately 25 percent of the state’s production, and the No. 1 privately-held oil and gas company in the United States.
Prior to founding Western Energy, Mr. Marshall was Principal and Managing Partner of oil and gas partnerships for TriMar Energy Partners, which focused its efforts on Leasehold and Mineral acquisitions in emerging plays in the Mid-Continent, California, South Texas and West Africa. Throughout his career, he has been involved in hundreds of wells on acreage plays and prospects that cover over 500,000 acres, successfully buying and selling properties with companies such as Shell Oil, Marathon Oil, Range Resources and Occidental Petroleum. Mr. Marshall performed his undergraduate studies at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
